Genocide Unit 1 Assignment

Understanding Genocide Unit Culminating Activity
Teaching young children about Genocide

For the first two weeks of the class we have looked at  how young people deal with discrimination, bullying and division. We have reviewed poems, classic stories and videos. Your task is to create a comic strip that explains one of the following topics to a student in a primary or junior school.

You must: 
-Use a minimum of 6 scenes
-Use colour
-explain your topic in a way that is suitable in vocabulary and tone for young learners
-be original
-use Comic Life
-use simple wording that has real detail but also a story
-use proper spelling
-be creative
-offer a strong message about the negative aspect of discrimination
-proof-read
 -hand it in on the due date for a gallery walk


You might:
-use your own photos
-use sculpture/lego pictures
-create a story that relates to the topic
-share experiences of your own
-see me if you have printer needs

Please select one of the following topics to focus on:

-bullying
-bullying circle
-discrimination in history
(choose one in particular- the Irish under the English, Blacks in America, women in history etc.
-current discrimination-gays in Jamaica, Muslims in France, etc
-steps of discrimination
-Residential Schools
-Native Canadians and the dissolution of their culture
-you may use a topic of your choosing after you have consulted with me. You may not create a strip on one of the genocides we have yet to learn about.
