Courtrooms and Courthouse Do's and Don'ts

When visiting a courtroom, obey the courtroom staff at all times.  They are responsible for protocol and order in the courtroom.

Teachers/Group Supervisor(s) are expected to accompany their students at all times.

Please follow these rules to make your visit to the courthouse enjoyable and informative:

Do:

Ø  Please arrive on time and try to make your way to the courtroom for the scheduled start time (10:00 AM) to avoid any delays.

Ø  Be courteous, attentive and quiet, especially when entering or leaving a court in session.

Ø  Be seated as soon as possible.  All visitors to the courtroom must remain seated during court proceedings unless asked to rise by the Courtroom Clerk, Judge or panel of Judges.

Ø  Please obey all signs restricting access to various areas of the courthouse.

Ø  Remove all hats, baseball caps, headphones and or head wear (exception: religious head wear).

Don't:

Ø  Do not make loud noises (no babies from Parenting Class), chew gum, sleep or otherwise disrupt the court.

Ø  Cameras and recording devices are prohibited in courtrooms and the courthouse.

Ø  Do not take pictures in the courtrooms or around the courthouse.

Ø  Do not bring or consume food or drinks, including bottled water in the courtrooms.

Ø  Book bags, backpacks and parcels are to be placed on the floor by your feet.   Do not leave them unattended.

Ø  Please turn off all Pagers, Cell Phones, MP3 Players and all other Portable Electronic gears.


Ø  Do not bring Ice Skates, Scissors, Knife, Key chain (with pen knife) or anything with Sharp Edges to the courthouse.

Nov 26 CLN 4U

1.Hand in your R v Williams hmwk.
2.Finish jury game from yesterday.
3.Courtprep activity
4.Let's look at questions and how the crown/defense will question the witness(in your package from mock trial)
5.Review court decorum for us.


Tomorrow is interview day. You will have the whole day to meet with Mock Trial groups.Please be here. You will be marked for participation.

Funny Boy Mini Presentations
Due: Thursday November 27
Group Members:_____________________________________________________________________________
In groups of 6 you will be asked to teach the class about one particular section of the novel.
You will be responsible for a 7-10 minute oral presentation and a handout for the class to use as their study notes. We will present in order of chapters.
The following headings must be covered in the presentation:
1. Plot summary-summarize the plot of this section in 7-10 sentences. Explain title of the chapter.
2. Four different examples of literary devices. They must be identified and explained. This is a beautifully written book-choose the best ones!
3. Character Development- choose Arji and at least one other character and explain how the characters developed using the ideas we went over in class. You must make direct reference to the text.
4. Conflict –What is the main conflict in the section? Explain the conflict and note how it relates to the rest of the novel as a whole.
5. Two discussion provoking questions about your novel that you might ask the class to be used to encourage discussion.

6.One creative piece-Choose a poem, song, art object, famous quote or excerpt from literature that relates to this chapter and explain how it connects to the chapter in  four- five sentences.
